The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

The man engaged in a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.

The legal representative continued: "This year his family member had worries about the activities, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were located, and his stepchild contacted the police about his concerns.

She said Ruben continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"The police had not responded by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement again.

She said the man then played the "candy game" in a space of five children.
